Saiwootu is re-igniting a family legacy by bringing back a local gem from the 1980’s in the heart of Joburg.

Saiwootu was owned by the Shing family and was renowned for its authentic flavours, warm hospitality, and strong community presence.

Caleb watched his grandparents cook Chinese cuisine from a young age.  He was and still is fascinated by the sheer joy food brought to people. Decades later, he is honouring that legacy – while giving it a bold, modern twist. Inspired by childhood memories in the kitchen and his own journey through food markets and mobile cooking, he’s reimagining his food stand as a dynamic, updated version that pays homage to its past while looking firmly to the future.
